Getting Started With The Wizard

To get started with the Traction Roadmap, click on the available link in the sidebar.

Once you begin work on your Traction Roadmap, you will be greeted with a wizard that will guide you through each of the seven key metrics we need to capture in order to generate your customer factory and corresponding roadmap.

For the moment, we continue to support the Direct model.  Multi-sided and Marketplace models will be part of a future release.  For more details on how you can be approach those specific models, please see the corresponding Masterclass links listed in each respective area.

First, choose a goal.  The number will be formatted automatically as you type.

Second, choose your pricing model and revenue.

You can choose from any of the three available pricing model types.  As you input a number, the type will light up to indicate that it's been selected.

Third, choose your expected customer retention time.

Next, choose your acquisition and activation (conversion) rates.  It's a lot of fun to use these sliders (and you'll get there soon enough), but we recommend leaving these at their respective 10% rates.

Finally, you'll choose referral and growth rate information.  Unless you have clearly demonstrated and consistent referral numbers we suggest leaving this information at 0 to begin with.  Additionally, we recommend leaving the growth rate at 10X.

When you've completed the wizard you'll be greeted with the Customer Factory and corresponding Traction Roadmap.

Understanding The Chart

Most of the numbers contained in the customer factory and in the chart are based on monthly numbers needed to reach your minimum success criteria through total number of customers.  By default, the chart shows the new customers needed in a given month as well as the cumulative total you should be accruing during that time. You can also toggle related numbers for cancellations, referrals, signups, and visitors in order to better understand the numbers you need to reach for each of those within a given month.

Updating Your Traction Roadmap

You can make changes to your assumptions by clicking the "Edit Assumptions" link near the top.

Downloading A Copy Of Your Traction Roadmap

Both the Customer Factory and the Traction Roadmap chart provides ways for you to save a copy locally.

The Customer Factory contains a link below the image that will allow you to export to PDF.

The Traction Roadmap chart will allow you to download both PNG and SVG versions.

Starting Over

Sometimes, instead of making small adjustments you may want to walk through the wizard in its entirety from start to finish again.  You can do so by selecting the button at the top right. Please note that this will clear all current data for the given Traction Roadmap.
